The Gift of Existence Born from a Thousandth of a Second!
To understand human existence, one must look back to the beginning of the story — to the anatomy and physiology of creation. A woman is born with a fixed number of eggs, equally divided between her two ovaries. In other words, a woman comes into the world with an inheritance of eggs. If one ovary is lost, life continues with the remaining eggs on the other side. In contrast, the number of sperm in men is not fixed; each ejaculation contains between 50 and 100 million sperm. And among those millions, only one achieves the genetic union that makes you who you are.
To come into existence, the right moment must be captured. In women, ovulation occurs only once a month, typically in the middle of a 28-day cycle, around the 14th day. In some cases, this may shift by a few days earlier or later. After being released into the abdominal cavity, the egg is drawn into the fallopian tube by tiny structures called fimbriae. The egg’s lifespan is only about 6 to 10 hours.
The lifespan of a sperm is about 48 hours. For fertilization to occur, these two time frames must overlap. As millions of sperm travel through the uterus and fallopian tubes, only one reaches the egg. That single sperm becomes the first cell that defines your existence. Once it penetrates the egg, a mechanism activates to prevent any other sperm from entering. In rare cases where two sperm enter at the same time, identical or fraternal twins may result.
This timing is crucial not only for the beginning of life but also for birth control and healthy conception. The sperm lives for up to 48 hours, the egg for about 10 — and this brief overlap is the very center of the miracle of existence.
For life to continue, the quality of both egg and sperm depends on a healthy lifestyle. Balanced nutrition, avoiding harmful habits, and taking good care of the body are essential foundations for the health of future generations. During pregnancy, the recommended weight gain is around 10 kilograms — not only for maintaining proper weight but also to ensure the baby benefits from a variety of nutrients. Foods rich in folic acid, iron, and protein are particularly important for neurological development.
